In case you haven’t noticed, fashion has gone all statement this
season.
Over-sized jewellery and block colours are working in league
with power prints, for that added fashion oomph. Bold and often bright,
many of the hottest prints this season are thick stripes, check, polka
dot and animal print.
The Power of Prints This Season
Power prints turn heads and, when worn correctly, can perfectly compliment your figure. Heavily-printed items need to be worn against different colours, or non-printed items, to make sure that your clothes aren’t fighting each other for attention.Striped skinny jeans, paired with a plain-coloured t-shirt tucked into your waistband, will sculpt your legs and emphasise your feminine shape. A loose-fitting leopard print chiffon shirt, or brightly coloured t-shirt dress, will look great over plain or printed leggings, or skinny jeans.
Power prints are versatile; they suit over-sized tops and dresses pulled in with a belt, as well as close-fitting mini skirts and bomber jackets.
Contrasting colours always help prints stand out, so look out for hot pink on black material or gold prints on green. If you prefer natural over striking, keep to dark and light shades of the same colour, with a statement necklace or bangles for added texture.
Even painting your nails can bring the edge to an outfit, such as jeans teamed with a white shirt and bold red lipstick print.
From Beyonce in animal power prints, to Fearne Cotton in lovely floral – if you’re uncertain about how to wear your prints, check out how celebrities sport similar items.
Kirsten Dunst, wearing a floor-length, silk brown and white check Louis Vuitton dress, has shown that bold prints can be elegant; while Miley Cyrus pulled off a Chanel black and white striped jumpsuit, with bold make-up and a statement necklace, for fashion chic.
As with any statement clothing, it’s fine to mix and match, but don’t overdo one area. A printed scarf can emphasise your top half, whereas a printed bag or ballet shoes can draw attention to your arms and feet and bring an outfit together.
Master these basic guidelines and this season’s style will be your art!
