Striped Trousers: The Verdict

Tags

Striped trousers are one of the hottest statement items this season, with some of the top A-list celebrities trending them – but are they EVER a good idea?

It all depends how you wear them.

Monochrome stripes are in style right now and far from being unsightly these can look elegant and boost your assets.

Striped Trousers: The Verdict

Skinny-fit striped trousers follow the contours of your body, accentuating your curves. However, with power prints there is always the potential for them to hug the wrong places.

While striped skinny trousers look great with a crop-top or gathered shirt, from behind they can be unflattering around the bum. The key here is to know what works for you. If you’re self-conscious or going for elegant, try the Fergie look and pair them with a loose fitting plain black t-shirt. This will hide the problem area and make your legs look slimmer.

Opt for narrower stripes over chunky, and avoid wearing them with huge black boots and a long-sleeved polo neck like Miley Cyrus! This makes your outfit and your body look heavy. Break it up with a little flesh, like a scooping neckline or bare arms.

Tapered striped trousers also boost your figure so pair them with low cut ankle boots, such as Gwen Stefani, or heels to elongate your legs. A plain vest will show off your figure, but if you’re looking to focus on the legs, a loose-shirt will do.

Skinny-fit isn’t the only way to wear striped trousers either. Victoria Beckham was spotted in billowing brown and ivory stripes, which are great for summer or evening wear.

Wide-legged striped trousers can up your chic factor, especially when paired with an elegant belt and top. Plus, you can get away with wearing flats – perfect for the taller among us!

Striped trousers bring some jailbird-drama to any outfit but always remember the golden rules: stick to the two colours, stay away from other prints and only wear them if you’re feeling confident!
